Autumn cycling in the Algarve

As we have now moved into Autumn, I have watched with interest the various cycling retailers start to launch their Winter clothing ranges. Those include different types of gloves; rain jackets and tights - all designed for colder and wetter weather.

My friends from Northern climes - especially the UK - have started to mention the chilly, wet conditions. They are already using their Winter gear, or they are stuck inside on their indoor trainers to avoid the miserable conditions outside.

To us cyclists in the Algarve, it seems this long hot summer is neverending! This season I have seen +42 degrees on an evening ride in the Alentejo region; and this week we are still seeing the mercury nudge past 30-34 degrees on our morning rides underneath cloudless skies.

So the moral of the story is, if you fancy a bit of cycling on some quiet roads in beautiful countryside with fantastic food and culture - you can't go wrong with choosing the Algarve for some great Autumnal cycling adventures.....without wearing your winter gear!
