The final post in our series on our Spanish road trip will no doubt be a destination more familiar to you. Salamanca was our last destination before we made the trip back to Portugal, and it was the perfect place to end a magical road trip.
It is hard to describe, but there is something magical about the place. The most famous photos of the city are of the exceptional Plaza Mayor. We are not sure whether this is better by day or when it is illuminated at night, but it is unforgettable.
Salamanca has been nicknamed the golden city due to the look of many of its sandstone buildings at dawn and dusk. It has the 3rd oldest existing university in the world (behind Bologna and Oxford), and is a lively place with so much culture to experience. It was the most wonderful final stop for us.
How to sum up our trip......four World Heritage sights; stunning cities; incredible architecture and the pure joy and wonder of experiencing new places. That's before we even begin to mention the wonderful food and drink that we sampled on our trip! We had a ball, and can't wait to start planning the next big adventure!
