Castaway does Spain - Segovia

Today sees the next instalment in our series on Spain, and the focus is on yet another World Heritage Site - Segovia. This city has lots of highlights - its old Jewish quarter; grand mansions, and outstanding views.

One of the most impressive things about Segovia is the aqueduct. It is magnificent feat of engineering, with 167 arches held together by the balance of forces.

This old city has stunning winding streets, and the highest concentration of Romanesque churches in all of Europe. There is also a stunning fortress which is said to have inspired Walt Disney - and I think you can see why from the photo below!

By chance we were there when a religious procession dressed in traditional costumes came through the square and made their way to the cathedral - wonderful to see, and we were in the right place at the right time!

The best way to see the city is on foot - and we did a great self guided walking tour on which we discovered some beautiful streets and fantastic sights along the way. We had several magical moments in Segovia - and one was waking up to see hot air balloons outside our hotel window!

We are super lucky to live so close to places like this, and this is yet another destination that we would highly recommend.
