If you go to Porto, you will no doubt find yourself wandering around the streets of Vila Nova de Gaia, or simply Gaia. It is walking distance from the historic centre of Porto, only separated by the Douro, and is where the Port wine cellars were built in the 1700's. A wine tour is not the only reason to visit this area though. When wandering the quiet streets, you may stumble upon this fabulous installation of a huge rabbit.

It is made from recycled materials and rubbish collected from the city. Brought to life by Portuguese artist Artur Bordalo (known as Bordalo II, an artistic name he chose as a tribute to his grandfather, the painter Real Bordalo), it is a call for increased awareness of ecological sustainability. The artwork is positioned on the corner of a building, with one half multicoloured, and the other half in the original colours of the materials used - hence why the artwork is called 'Half Rabbit'

Take your time to see what the rabbit is made of - you'll spot street signs, plastic containers and pieces of metal. All put together very cleverly by the artist, who often created art using repurposed materials. You can find this fabulous piece of street art on the corner of Guilhereme Gomes Fernandes.
